Exclusive interview Sam Feldt: 'I think it’s one of the coolest records I've ever released'

Oct 17, 2016

Not only did he recently release his newest tune with Deepend and Teemu ‘Runaways’, he also throws the first pool party ever during the Amsterdam Dance Event. It’s for sure that Sam Feldt is here to stay!

This Dutchman is only in his early twenties, however he already managed to flood the dance scene with his new sound. After releasing the massive hit ’Summer On You’ together with Lucas & Steve featuring Wolf, his career took a major step in the right direction. Not only that, it also received a Dutch platinum record, due to the huge success of their collab. He is part of the newest generation that is ready to take over the world. With his melodic deep house, he is definitely putting his mark on dance music worldwide.

Wondering what Sam is doing during ADE? We asked him a few interesting questions. Check them out here!

Hey there, first up: what have you been up to lately?
“I just wrapped up my American Tour, ‘From Amsterdam With Love’ with my good friend Bakermat, which was a lot of fun. We had the opportunity to play cities that neither of us have been to and we had amazing crowds every night. Also, my new single with Deepend, ’Runaways’ feat. Teemu has been released. I’ve been playing ‘Runaways’ whilst I’ve been touring and it’s received a lot of love from my fans, so I’m really excited that it’s finally out!”

It’s time for the Amsterdam Dance Event! What are you doing this week?
“First off I’m hosting my own talk at ADE University called, ‘Turning the Artist/Fan Interface Around’ where I unveil my new fan engagement portal, Heartfeldt.me and discuss the interaction between artist and fan in our society today. Then I’ll be joining my Spinnin’ label mates for the Spinnin’ Sessions. Last but not least, I’ll be hosting my ‘Heartfeldt and Friends’ pool party, which is the first ever pool party in the history of Amsterdam Dance Event!”

Your single with Deepend and Teemu, Runaways was recently released. What can you tell us about this release?
“When I first got in the acapella for the track from talented singer Teemu, I immediately fell in love with it. After messing around with it in the studio for a couple of months, I involved the guys from Deepend and we decided to release it as a collaboration. Our styles really blend well together and after getting a live guitarist to play the guitar sample in the track, we decided the track was finished, mastered it and pushed it out. I’m really happy with the end result!”

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
“From the moment I started the Sam Feldt project, I told myself: under this new name (I used to DJ and produce under another alias), I will only make and release songs that I genuinely enjoy listening to myself. Songs from the heart: Heartfeldt. Therefore, I think the music I’ve released over the past three years is really diverse, but always includes two main ingredients: emotion and melody. This new record Runaways delivers on both and I think it’s one of the coolest records I've ever released.”

A lot of gigs coming up for ADE! Which one are you most excited about?
“My own pool party on the thursday of the ADE week!”

Sam Feldt presents Heartfeldt and Friends Poolparty is going to happen! What can we expect and how are you experiencing this epic happening?
“I’m so excited and honored to be hosting ADE’s first pool party! Fans can expect a tropical party paradise with Cat Carpenters, Lucas & Steve, Kungs, Ferreck Dawn & Klingande joining me. I’ll be playing some new material as well as some Sam Feldt classics. I’m so excited, it’s definitely going to be a night to remember!”

If you were free during ADE, which parties would you visit?
“There are too many good parties to go to. I’m flying to Shanghai to play Corona Sunsets straight after hosting my own pool party, but if I had any time over the weekend I’d basically just go wherever my friends are going. They have great taste in music and it’s been some time since I had time to spend with my friends and actually go out myself.”

Long story short, how would you describe the Amsterdam Dance Event in one sentence?
“An essential visit for anyone who cares about dance music.”

And finally, which record are we definitely going to hear a lot during this ADE?
“Definitely ‘Runaways’. It has some great remixes of it coming out soon and I love playing the Jay Hardway remix and the M22 remix in my sets!”
