Exclusive interview Dastic: 'Music is everything for me'

Oct 29, 2016

Keep a close eye on Dastic, because he is the next best thing! His new track ‘Let Me Love You’ featuring Cade was released last week and we sat down with this young talent to see what he’s all about!

Growing up in the Netherlands, Damian Bast alias Dastic, created a massive interest in music as he started to produce his own tunes at a very young stage in life. His own sound was born when he discovered that he doesn’t like to define music as a certain genre. He strives to search for the best sounds and combine them with credible vocals and sweet fresh melodies to create something beautiful.

Curious about his vision on music? Check out this exclusive interview!

Hey there, what have you been up to lately?
“A lot has happened lately. Just had a busy week at ADE. For me it was the first ADE that I visited as a Spinnin' artist. I mostly enjoyed meeting some of my fans at the Spinnin' Pop Up Store.”

Your new single with Cade, Let Me Love You is gonna go big. What can you tell us about this track?
“I heard 'Let Me Love You' by Mario while I was driving in a friend's car and I knew immediately that I wanted to make a remake version of it. I went to the studio and the idea was there in about an hour. After a few months of finalization and adding the amazing vocals by Cade, 'Let Me Love You' was born.”

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
“I really wanted to make something different then I usually do. I think 'Let Me Love You' is a perfect example of my new style which I worked a lot on the last year.”

If music wasn't your priority, what would you be working on instead?
“Music is everything to me, I don't see myself doing something that is not music related I think.”

What has been the coolest thing in your musical career up till now?
“I think my first Spinnin' release. It was such a magical feeling seeing my name on a real cover art from Spinnin' Records. Also the moment I got signed was a big goal. It has always been a dream for me.”
What artists/movies/books/art inspires you the most when creating music?
“I listen a lot to old music lately, especially old R&B & Hip Hopy. I get inspired by that kind of music because it is something totally different than house music, just a small sample can give me an idea for a new track.”

What do you think is the most interesting development in dance music these days?
“I think it is really cool how dance producers nowadays can easily work together with talented singer-songwriters and musicians. I really like to work with those kind of people who can bring a pop feeling into a dance record by playing guitar or something.“

What are your goals for the future?
“My goals for the future are clear. I want to make a lot of fresh music and tour the world to play my music on festivals and clubs. I want to make people happy with my music, make them smile and dance.”

And finally, what would you advise the upcoming stars on our Talent Pool?
“The best tip I can give: Make the music you like and try to do something different than what others do. I know it's difficult to find your own style, take your time and try things out. Failure doesn’t exist in music, be creative.”
