Exclusive interview: New Dance Music Friday featuring Throttle

Feb 10, 2017

We proudly present the New Dance Music Friday feature, your weekly update on all newly released dance tracks, brought together on one amazing Spotify playlist. Featured this week (among many others): Throttle!  He's released his new single ‘Hit The Road Jack’ this week,  and provides the list with some musical tips, and tells all about it in this exclusive interview.

Hey, you just released your new track 'Hit The Road Jack'. How did you create this?
"It started out as a goofy idea built around that famous Ray Charles baseline. I stumbled on an incredible cover of 'Hit The Road Jack' on youtube by a guy called Jordan Landers and knew his voice would be the perfect fit. I reached out and a few months later I was in Alabama of all places recording vocals for the track! I'd been tweaking it for over a year and finally finished it late last year."

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
"I'm constantly evolving and drawing inspiration from different genres of music. My music's been heavily disco influenced to date and I wanted to try something different whilst maintaining the uplifting, happy vibes of all my other releases. I've been getting much deeper into house recently and that definitely shines through in this."

The track is featured on Spinnin’s New Dance Music Friday playlist. How important is Spotify to you?
"Spotify's vital for all artists these days. It's the number one place where people discover music, and where most dance records are broken. I love using it to discover artists I've never heard of in any genre from EDM to U.K. punk rock."

Which tracks released this week should definitely be added to New Dance Music Friday?
"Here's a few tracks I'm loving right now!
CID - 'Secrets' ft Conrad Sewell
Loud Luxury - 'Something To Say'
Snakehips/MØ - 'Don't Leave (Throttle Remix)' - really stoked how this one turned out!"
