Exclusive interview: New Dance Music Friday featuring Mr. Belt & Wezol

Apr 21, 2017

We proudly present the New Dance Music Friday feature, your weekly update on all newly released dance tracks, brought together on one amazing Spotify playlist. Featured this week (among many others): Mr. Belt & Wezol!  Together  they release their new single ‘Good Times’ today, and provide the list with some musical tips, and tell all about it in this exclusive interview.

Hey, you just released your new track ‘Good Times’. How did you create this?
Wezol: "After our latest track 'Boogie Wonderland' we figured there couldn't be a better follow-up than a house take on Chic's 'Good Times'. It's known as one of the greatest songs of all time and I thought it would be great to use in a house track. I found the acapella on the internet and started working on the disco-vibe in the second break with a little guitar riff and piano chords. When I think of good times I always think of being on a festival with your friends. This is why the structure of the track is really festival-oriented: there's a pretty long build-up, followed by a massive bassline. In combination with the vocal it works wonders on festival gigs."

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
Wezol: "Tough question but I think this track suits the Mr. Belt & Wezol arsenal really good. I always try to combine nowadays music with stuff from the earlier years and this particular track is a good example of that because everyone knows the 'Good Times' vocal; but not everyone necessarily knows where they know the vocal from. With our takes on 'Somebody to Love', 'Finally', 'RDY2FLY' and 'Boogie Wonderland' it's only a logical next step in our musical 'evolution'."

The track is featured on Spinnin’s New Dance Music Friday playlist. How important is Spotify to you?
Mr. Belt: "It's everywhere! Even my mom downloaded it last week so she could listen to Ed Sheeran 24/7, lucky me! But all jokes aside, it's a great platform and almost every track is on there nowadays. It really shows how the music business is moving forward; the listener is getting more control and I think that can only be a good thing."
