Exclusive interview: New Dance Music Friday with TJR

Aug 18, 2017

We proudly present the New Dance Music Friday feature, your weekly update on all newly released dance tracks, brought together on one amazing Spotify playlist. Featured this week (among many others): TJR! He released his new single 'Time To Jack' this week, provides the list with some musical tips, and tells all about it in this exclusive interview.

Hey, you just released your new single 'Time To Jack'. How did you create this?
"This track has changed many forms since its inception, however the core idea has kinda remained the same.  My idea was to use a Dutch kick drum pattern like the one heard in Oliver Twizt's remix of Afrojack's 'Polkadots'. I've always loved it's energetic pace.  I just bought a Roland Jupiter 6 so the lead was created with that synth. The JP6 makes many great sci-fi sounds and leads because of its mulit-mode filter.  The chord stabs and vocal were a throwback to early 90s rave.  And for those who don't know, 'Jacking' is a type of dancing from Chicago. Jack Yo Body!"

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
"I'm always looking for new ways to make bangers haha! I love tracks for the club and festival because I'm a DJ by heart. I love producing tracks that work in those environments. I could go the radio dance pop route but that stuff kinda bores me as a producer because I thrive on the energy that comes from tracks made for the dancefloor (or the moshpit ;). But as I say that I might end up making a dance pop track then have to back pedal in another interview lol."

The track is featured on Spinnin’s New Dance Music Friday playlist. How important is Spotify to you?
"I love Spotify. I'm constantly searching for new music and creating my own playlists.  It's my go to music application 100 percent over everything else."

Which recently released dance tracks should definitely be added to New Dance Music Friday?
