Exclusive interview: New Dance Music Friday with EDX

Jan 26, 2018

We proudly present the New Dance Music Friday feature, your weekly update on all newly released dance tracks, brought together on one amazing Spotify playlist. Featured this week (among many others): EDX! He's releasing his single 'Jaded' today, and talks about the creation of the EP, his music and current favorite new records in this exclusive interview.

Hey, you just released 'Jaded'. How did you create this?
"'Jaded' was created around October, which gave us a lot of time to work on the final mix and version. I usually start with a beat and groove and add all the rest right after. In this case I started with the vocal sample first, which I usually only do for remix productions and added all the other groove, lead sound etc afterwards. The string before the breakdown was added towards the end. I knew that that part leading into the breakdown deserved something special . It’s been a crazy start to the year already for me. Ten gigs on four continents and twenty two flights later - Jaded pretty much sums it up! Really excited for my fans to hear this latest release and its out on one of my favourite labels right now, Spinnin’ Deep. Here’s to a great 2018."

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
"The revolution on the dance-floor? It’s another year and I’m non-stop hopping between home, airplanes, clubs and the studio. On my trips I get so much inspiration - from random travels, to my shows, new places and in general new music out there. Sometimes flashbacks even take me back to 20 years ago, into my journey as raver and DJ in the early days. It brings back lots of musical memories and moments in me, that sometimes I can find in my own music. It’s something magic I can’t tell you. As a DJ/producer/artist I think it essential to always be on the move. "

The track is featured on Spinnin’s New Dance Music Friday playlist. How important is Spotify to you?
"Spotify has changed the way the world listened to music in such an incredible, impacting way, and it’s been a real revolution for me as an artist. Being able to be featured on playlists my fan create, big label playlist, lifestyle brands - and of course all the official playlists made by Spotify is helping my music a lot. It's a great statement for an artist that works hard and wants his music to be heard all over the globe."
