Jun 1, 2018

We proudly present the New Dance Music Friday feature, your weekly update on all newly released dance tracks, brought together on one amazing playlist. Featured this week (among many others): CID! He released his new single 'Use Me Up' today, and talk about the creation of it in this exclusive interview.

Hey, you just released your new single 'Use Me Up‘ together with Anabel Englund. How did you create this? (from initial idea to working it out in the studio)
CID:
"I’ve been a fan of Anabel’s music for a while.  She has this incredibly soulful voice that just works perfectly with house music.  Her style and melodies come so naturally, making it a pleasure to work with her in the studio.  I met her for the first time over a year ago when she was visiting New York.  A mutual friend had told me she was here and he arranged for us to met up.  The next day we got in the studio and worked on what became “Use Me Up.”  She already came in with the idea to do a cover version of Bill Withers -  “Use Me” , so we made a basic demo track and recorded her vocal swaying a bit from the original version.  After that session, I really took apart the demo and created what became the final version that you are hearing now."

Anabel Englund:
"Well, I was in New York & a mutual friend introduced us & we took the opportunity to get to work! I actually came into the studio specifically wanting to cover Use Me by Bill Withers, so CID  made a beat & I recorded the words & he took the rest from there."

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
CID:
"I’ve always been really into more house and tech scene, and i’ve slowly been playing more and more of it in my sets... For “Use Me Up”, it just felt natural to do this kind of record with Anabel.  There is this authenticity and realness with house music that i just can’t find in any other genre and it has really inspired me over the years."

Anabel Englund:
"I’d say the vocal is very strong & sure, I belt it out on this song which I don’t do to often I love it because it also symbolizes how I feel in my artistry & as a human being which is strong & sure. I know what I want to do, & I’ll do whatever efforts it takes to get there."

The track is featured on Spinnin’s New Dance Music Friday playlist. How important is streaming to you?
CID:
"Streaming is a big reason the record industry is profitable again, so it’s very important not only to me, but also for all the music makers out there. Because of streaming, music has become very accessible.  You don't need a huge marketing budget, or big radio campaign to get heard. Streaming is helping new artists and their music get discovered every day."

Anabel Englund:
"I think it’s really important because the more streams the more humans are listening to my music. I want to get in front of as many as possible. Hi Humanz!"
