Exclusive interview: New Dance Music Friday with BLR

Aug 3, 2018

We proudly present the New Dance Music Friday feature, your weekly update on all newly released dance tracks, brought together on one amazing playlist. Featured this week (among many others): BLR! He's releasing his new single 'Cordoba' today, and talks about the creation of it in this exclusive interview.

Hey, you are releasing your new single 'Cordoba‘ today. How did you create this?
"If I remember correctly, I was just chilling at home on a Sunday evening and I had this chord progression idea in my head so I went to the studio to put it in - at the same time I had just bought a new VST instrument and made this new pads sound with it, and used that on the chords. After that I just added all other elements as they are, the little arpy melody in the intro playing now initially would be the lead melody but I thought I'd have to add another powerful element to make it shine even more and all that - finished it soon after."

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
"I don't really know, I just make what comes to mind. But you can maybe say you can hear influences of all music I produced in the past and/or have been listening to - a lot comes together in the BLR records, 'Cordoba' being no different here. Also what I really like about the BLR project is that it's kind of a playground for me coming up with new sounds and production techniques I can later on apply in my Bolier and other projects."

The track is featured on Spinnin’s New Dance Music Friday playlist. How important is streaming to you?
"Currently the most important thing; it's the new radio, the transparency seeing updates on amounts of plays daily, all of it, leading into the fact that it's even more 'power to the people'. People can decide what they like and what they stream, anytime, anywhere. In a way it's a step closer to a direct artist - fan relationship while monetizing still is in place too; basically this means that the possibility to make a living out of making music becomes a possibility for more musicians again."

Which tracks released this week should definitely be added to New Dance Music Friday?
Camelphat & Ali Love - 'Dopamine Machine'
Made by Pete - 'So Long' (feat Jem Cooke)
Mees Salome - 'Just Thoughts'
Lutrell - 'Intergalactic Plastic' (Clarian Remix)
Joachim Pastor - 'Ariane'
