Exclusive interview: New Dance Music Friday with Hanne Mjøen

Sep 28, 2018

We proudly present the New Dance Music Friday feature, your weekly update on all newly released dance tracks, brought together on one amazing playlist. Featured this week (among many others): Hanne Mjøen! She releases her new single 'Sounds Good To Me' today, and talks about the creation of it in this exclusive interview.

Hey, you are releasing your new single 'Sounds Good Today' today. How did you create this?
"Hi, I’m so excited about releasing this track! Already on the train ride home from the writing session, I remember feeling that we had made something special. I’m a very emotional person, and I’ve always wanted to write about that. Every time you go into a new relationship with someone, you always experience different emotions that you have to deal with. It’s hard, and heartbreaking, but at the same time you’re getting highs, and butterflies, that makes it all worth it. Cause without love, life would be kind of boring, right?"

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
"I’ve released a few tracks before, and my previous singles have helped me develop myself and finding my voice as an artist. With 'Sounds Good To Me' I feel like I’ve finally found and embraced who I am. The lyrics are so honest and personal, and I love how the instruments are emphasizing that with 80’s inspired drums and synths."

The track is featured on Spinnin’s New Dance Music Friday playlist. How important is streaming to you?
"I like streaming, it makes it easier for new artists to get discovered. It's a unique platform where you can listen to all kinds of music at the same place, and make your own playlist with your favorites. Streaming has also made the likes of the songs more important than the artist, and lets each and every song speak for itself."

Which tracks released this week should definitely be added to New Dance Music Friday?
Robyn - 'Honey'
Lido - 'Partake'
Jesper Jenset - 'Bad Vibrations'
